Evelyn Waugh has kicked my ass

I can't do it. I just can't finish Brideshead Revisted. Waugh uses too many words, I don't really get the point of it, and I find the characters at best a bit annoying and at worst loathsome. I thought it was a tale of an English country house, an Edwardian family, and perhaps a scandal or two. Instead I'm watching the narrator get more and more detestable when he wasn't that appealing to start with. So I'm invoking #3 of the Reader's Bill of Rights - the right to not finish. I think I'll rent the 2008 movie version and I can enjoy sweeping views of the country house as well as sweeping views of Emma Thompson. Probably should've done that in the first place.

yeah, I can see that. I enjoyed the movie, quite a bit, but I was imagining the prose that would accompany it, and I just don't think I could handle it.
Glad to have you confirm my suspicions.

They were indeed correct! I wish I'd stopped sooner...
