Nattie at Nattie Writes has issued a challenge to read 6 Newbery winners. Children's librarian me could not resist, especially since I haven't read nearly as many of them as I should. (Plus, I've already read 2 of them this year, so I'm counting 'em!)
1. The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron (2007)
2. The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo (2004)
3. Crispin: the cross of lead by Avi (2003)
4. Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor (1992)
5. Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli (1991)
6. Number the Stars by Lois Lowry (1990)

I LOVE Number the Stars! I also like Lowry's The Giver.
I've read numbers 3 and 6! And I'm participating in this challenge, too. The problem with these challenges is that I always want to read EVERYTHING. And even more so if they're Newberry winners.
MyU - I enjoyec the Giver, too, that's the one Lowry classic I've read, I think, so I'm looking forward to Stars.
Dewey - I noticed you were in this one, too = yay! I think we're in for quit a challengey summer.
i've read #2 (which i absolutely loved!) and #5 and 6 too (both of which are also great). i've got #1 on my own Newbery Challenge list.
What a nice reading challenge. I always enjoy reading Newbery Medal and Honor books.
I found your blog through Dewey's Blogroll Game, what a wonderful excuse to check out some new blogs.
Hope you have a nice week!
I prefer the older Newberry winners like A Wrinkle in Time and The Grey King (or was it "The Dark is Rising"? I can't recall). You've challenged me, though, to go back and revisit more of the stories I loved as a child.
Visiting from the Blogroll Game. Love the blog! I'll be back.
